Thinking of taking the plunge and building a pool in your backyard? It is a lot more complicated and detailed than most homeowners realize. As a contractor that has built many pools, both Gunite and fiberglass, we can tell you there are pros and cons to each, but both can be equally as satisfying at the end of the day.
The best advice we can give anybody looking to build a pool would be to look closely at their budget and determine a number with which you are comfortable. Then, double that number. It always costs more money than you think. When you talk about permitting, plumbing, electrical, finish options, types of coping and decking, and water features, building a pool can be time-intensive and budget-expensive.
Everybody wants a grotto or a special water feature, but they don’t realize what goes into that. One hidden cost that seem to alarm and surprise people the most is the multitude of decking options. That is the real beauty of a pool, and the design of an integrated coping transition or the modern look of an infinity pool is not for everyone’s budget. Finally, the access points during construction get a lot of wear and tear, and often requires landscaping replacement at the end of the project.
It’s expensive, but nothing beats having a pool in your backyard, especially during Florida’s summer months. Do your due diligence. Research options and decide what you would like and afford. Then, let us have a team come out and do an initial survey of the land and start from there.
